1    Teacher Calling – Govinda
Teacher Calling weaves field recordings gathered by Critical Beats including: 1) a Shipibo elder in the Amazon singing prayers that her endangered native language may be heard; 2) flute from a native medicine healer from the Sacred Valley of Peru; 3) percussion including rain sticks from a native from the Sacred Valley; 4) children from the Amazon jungle outside of Iquitos who are taught how to care for the rainforest sustainably through the nonprofit environmental program ACEER.  This song beautifully represents Critical Beats’ mission to interweave voices representing a united effort toward rainforest preservation.

2    Emerald Epiphytes – Bluetech

3    Eagle Shuffle – Quade Icaro
Quade mixes several indigenous recordings including an Icaro gifted to Critical Beats by a curandero (medicine healer) from Raboya, a village deep in the Amazon. This Icaro was passed down through his familial line of generations of curanderos. An Icaro is a shamanic song passed down from elder shamans, dreams, or spirits, which are used to produce visions and visual displays of the inner ailments of a person’s body so the shaman can heal these patterns. This particular Icaro is a song to clean the body and take out all that causes pain, including physical ailments, confusion, crossed ideas, and sadness. 4    The Eagle – DJ Spooky
DJ Spooky uses samples from Tito La Rosa's "Strength of the Eagle", which is a powerful example of traditional Peruvian healing music.  Tito, one of Peru's most beloved sacred musicians, uses instruments that are 1,000’s of years old. This cross-global compilation spans millennia of sounds and traditions collected by Critical Beats, all speaking the desire to heal our global forests and live in right relation. 5    Holographic Rain – Mystical Sun
Legendary Ambient and Downtempo specialist Mystical Sun will be delivering his eagerly anticipated album 26000 Years in 2012. This track from Energy Mind Consciousness is an example of the consciousness resonating throughout his music and resonating strongly with the survival of this planet. 6    Trees Laugh  – Hot Pink Purple
Anahata Sound and Russ Liquid of Hot Pink Purple weave sound bites of indigenous children from the Amazon jungle into this mystical downtempo gem. Children from many villages have contributed to Critical Beats in a variety of forms, including poetry, stories, traditional songs, dances, and best of all, their laughter! 7    Paradiso Dub – Yubaba One
Taken from the album 'Paradiso' on Cyberset Music by Brazilian artists Pedro Gomide and Frederico Drummond, who make up the unique sounds that we call Yubaba.
They joined their skills in this project where mixing influences from their roots, they touch the listeners recreating the eclectic and open minded mood you could only find in Brasil. Featuring different musicians as the singers Thailan, Blacklight and Nathalia, the trumpet player Dan Covan and brazilian percussionists, Yubaba evolves from dub into lounge with a trip hop feeling and an electro taste.  Released December 21, 2009 by www.cybersetmusic.com.

8    Amazon Secrets – Knowa Knowone
 Oakland’s whomp wizard Knowa Knowone weaves traditional Shipibo songs gifted to Critical Beats by teens attending school outside of Pucallpa, Peru in an effort to help protect the Amazon rainforests.   Their school, in the village of Bema Jema, strives to retain traditional customs and keep their native language alive by teaching younger generations songs and stories in Shipibo. 9    The Xavante – Govinda
 
In honor of the 25th anniversary of Rainforest Action Network (RAN), Critical Beats and Govinda teamed up with musicians from the Xavante Indigenous tribe of Brazil to create an extraordinary piece of music.  The Xavante is working to resist soy expansion onto their territories with the help of RAN’s Protect-an-Acre Program. This music is truly one of a kind, sharing the Xavante’s ceremonial sounds and connecting listeners to the hearts and prayers for support in their struggle to retain their homeland. 10   Sadness of – Lynx and Janover
Lynx and Janover beautifully weave heartfelt instrumental and vocals alongside messages from the children and teachers of Cahuide village in the Amazon. The environmental program at Cahuide is funded by the Amazon Center for Environmental Research (ACEER), which teaches the native children about sustainability, plant medicines, and cultural traditions of the rainforest. 11   Yacumana – Jupit3r
Los Angeles music producer Jupit3r teams up with Critical Beats to birth an underground downtempo version of a sacred Icaro called ‘Yacumama’, the Water Mother.  This song is originally written and sung by Jorge Cereceda Castro, a prominent musician of sacred music and traditional songs of Peru. Yacumama is the mother spirit of the Amazon River, a magnificent catalyst for healing and birthing of the soul self. Released May 3, 2010 by www.criticalbeats.org.

12   Creation Matrix – Kalpataru Tree
Kalpataru Tree captures the magical nature of his frequently travelled Cascadia (British Columbia, Oregon, and Washington) and the area where he resides just outside of Ashland, Oregon. Kalpataru Tree performances are most likely to be found in this region.  He is inspired by imagination, nature, God, the evolution of technology, and grateful for people writing really good software.
