Earthdance 2005 - Laytonville

EARTHDANCE 2005 HIGHLIGHTS

2005 Community Spiral Dance

Immediately following the Prayer for Peace on Saturday September 17th we all joined hands and dance a double spiral dance. This was most likely be the biggest spiral dance ever created thanks to such wonderful particpation from everyone! The Spiral dance is a very powerful experience that can weave our collective intentions and prayers into one great vision that we then release into the universe on an incredible wave of voices. This kind of focused prayer has been proven to have tremendous potential for positive change and the dance itself is a great opportunity for us to connect as a community - as we join hands in a circle to dance into the center and out again, we pass each person in the dance and begin to see the many powerful beings that are part of this great turning of the wheel of life!

In the natural world, the spiral is seen everywhere: in the unfurling bud of a new rose, the whorled lines of a seashell, even in the great spiral arms of galaxies. The spiral image appears in sacred art of many cultures. The Native American shamanic tradition holds concentric circles to be "passageways between the natural and supernatural world", and mandalas are sacred symbols used for meditation in Eastern religions which often use spiral motifs. In Australian aboriginal paintings, concentric circles are said to show the location of sacred sites. Spiral images appear in the art of the Huichol Indians of Mexico and in many other cultures around the world. Both single and double spirals were among the most sacred signs of Neolithic Europe. They appeared on megalithic monuments and temples all over the continent and the Celtic islands. Spiral oculi (double twists resembling eyes) appear prominently in places like the threshold stones at Newgrange in Ireland.

How it Works:

Firstly, all participants will move to the outer edges of the field. Then two leaders holding tall banners will begin a slow journey into the center creating a line behin them. As participants chant to the heartbeat of the drum, they will join one of the lines. Those who do not wish to dance can move to the center and hold space there. Each procession will move into the center and then begin to weave back out again - passing the line that is still moving inward. As the lines move in and out, the energy builds and when the two lines meet, all participants will raise their voices and release their intentions to the heavens.

Please note: IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE LINE STAYS TOGETHER! This means that once you have taken hold of the hands of the people next to you, you must not let go! If you need to leave the circle, make sure that you connect the hands of the people on either side of you. We will have helpers there to make sure that the dance moves smoothly but please remember, that every part of the spiral affects every other part and so we must work together to make it work well!

Thank-you for joining us and joining up - together we danced the spiral - making history, weaving our voices, our hearts and our steps into an intention for peace and awakening - revitalizing ourselves and our community with each step we took! - Suzanne

Panel Discussion: Media, Spin & Alternative Cultures

Let's Turn It Inside Out: shifting media power from the corporate to the grassroots

...Today, the media is the news. Reporters are in the middle of the people, power, and the truth. The self-preservation imperatives of big journalism may have compromised its purpose: to give citizens information to make informed choices. By breaking the silence, voices in the wilderness are being aired on independent airwaves and internet, in newly created broadcast venues, with technology that has never been possible till now.

We'll bring together people from the Independent Media Center movement, non-profits using media to realize their missions, members of the press reporting on Earthdance, and you. Together, we will turn it inside out, participating in a dynamic discussion about the future of the media and journalism, highlighting opportunities for our continuing involvement.

Art in Action, Action as Art

This Earthdance workshop brings together prominent guest speakers and their varying styles of creative activism and/or socially-informed creativity. Panelists include Julia Butterfly Hill, Marie Daulne of Zap Mama, Lisa Russel, and Zachary Zide. There will be brief presentations interspersed with dialogue among speakers, and audience participation will be encouraged throughout. Facilitated by Tania Russell and Agent Apple. Some areas for exploration:

• How can activators and artisans of culture work more closely together to inspire positive change?

• How do we catalyze change, and how do we *imagine* we catalyze change? What can "everyday people" do?

• How can we evolve our point of view to respond to the challenges of the current political environment?

• From an artist’s point of view, what are the common leverage points for mass action? Can we set shared priorities to amplify our efforts, beyond the standard 'coalition-building'?

The Future of Festivals

Why do we choose to participate in festivals? Is it like direct activism, a way of making our voices heard? Is it a way to find a new sense of community we are otherwise lacking? Just good healthy fun and entertainment? Understanding what we are drawn to in festivals may help us to work together to find solutions to the issues that impact our festivals directly, such as land use, or the strength and quality of our impact on important issues. Our mutual understanding and co-operation can assist our vision for the future and how we act in their stead, creating festivals which more fully embody our values and goals.

Join us as we journey through these topics with representatives from Earthdance, Reggae on the River, Burning Man, Oregon Country Fair, Moontribe, Gathering of The Tribes, the Hog Farm, SolFest, Health and Harmony, Rainbow Family, Oracle Gatherings, Tribal Harmonix, Joshua Tree Music Festival, Island Festival, Green Gorilla/Green Alliance and plenty of others including Wavy Gravy, the Rock Philosopher and Clown Extraordinaire! Facilitated by Dustianne North and David Sartore.

Sri Yantra - The Sacred Symbol of the Goddess

Swami Chaitanya, who constructed the huge three-dimensional Sri Yantra in the main bowl for this year's Earthdance, will discuss the sacred geometry and multiple meanings of this ancient Hindu mandala. In Sanskrit, "Sri" means divine and "Yantra" means tool, and hence it is a tool used to focus meditation as well as to explain the map of the cosmic energy, which is mirrored in the human body. The Sri Yantra is the symbol of Shiva and Shakti, Yin and Yang, the perfect balance of nature and spirit.

YOGA WORKSHOPS
Led by the following Instructors:

Antonio Sausys | Hanneli Frances | Ambe Ray

Antonio Sausys grew up in Uruguay, where he discovered a key correlation between modern body-oriented psychotherapy and ancient yogic teachings, and has integrated the best practices from both worlds into his chosen profession as a yoga instructor and Somatic health practitioner. He applies specific yogic techniques to treat a variety of chronic medical and/or emotional conditions. His specialty is working one-on-one with individuals to create a “Yoga Sadhana” This is a specifically designed yogic routine that best serves the individual’s needs and abilities, integrating mind, body and spirit to fully embrace the experience of life. Antonio currently resides in Marin County with a thriving yoga practice throughout the Bay Area. In addition to speaking engagements and workshops, he is an accomplished opera singer, accordion player, actor, and is fluent in four languages: Spanish, English, Portuguese and Italian.

About Antonio's Class:
Pawanmuktasana III 'Shakti Bandha'
or the unblocking of the Creative Energy -
Amongst the many manifestations that energy can have within the human being, the creative energy is in the base of our ability to produce art, express, relate, and most importantly, come up with coping strategies to adapt to life challenges. Any blockage at this level, will diminish our possibilities of experiencing a fulfilling life turning the many gifts we receive into 'problems to be solved.' This practice offers a set of physical and breathing techniques along with visualizations intended to unblock the flow of creative energy within your system independent of whether the blockage is physical, mental or energetic.

Anotonio's Classes will be held at the Lotus Temple Dome on Friday 5pm, Saturday 7pm and Sunday 8am. See the full Lotus Temple Dome Schedule...

Hanneli Francis, a devoted student of yoga since 1989, is a certified Anusara yoga instructor, Nuat Thai yoga therapist and joyful student of Life. Her teaching arises from her dedicated studies in the heart-oriented Anusara yoga, Vipassana Meditation and Earth-based ritual. Her contagious joy and enthusiasm offer a supportive, inclusive environment for self-exploration. With a BA in Environmental Conservation, Hanneli offers retreats that combine her deep understanding of earth-based healing with her studies of both Eastern and Western Mysticism. This is an essential piece of her work -- combining the powerful transformational tools of Invocation and Intention with yoga and meditation.

About Hanneli's Class:
Anusara Yoga is a form of hatha yoga which is heart-oriented, spiritually inspiring and grounded in the Universal Principles of Alignment. Embrace the balance in life, between aiming your strong passion toward something you want and opening to a power or vision greater than yourself. When we align our power with the larger current of energy/Grace, a spontaneous sense of freedom arises. Yoga classes with Hanneli will explore this dynamic in a fun, playful way.

Hanneli's Classes will be held at the Lotus Temple Dome on Friday 5pm, Saturday 8am and Sunday 10am. See the full Lotus Temple Dome Schedule...

NEW PARADIGM PHYSICS: Into the Light of 2012

The physics and metaphysics of the Sun and the evolution of our Solar System. Light is Wisdom and the Sun is bringing in a new frequency of pure radiance. We will discuss Solar flares and their effect on Earth Changes as well as the transformation of consciousness. We will learn the ancient art of Sungazing as taught by Hira Manek, a saint from India that has been living on Sunlight for 10 years.

Our sun has "reincarnated" from a yellow-orange sun and is now a yellow-white sun. The ancient prophesies say it has moved from the fifth sun to the sixth sun. Light is wisdom, and new information is illuminating our solar system, raising the frequency, reactivating the original purpose of heaven on earth. One of the physical manifestations of the solar transformation are Solar flares, which are in turn activating the earth, causing dramatic earth changes. I will give an explanation of these changes from a scientific point of view, as well as share maps of the future created by several visionaries.

Asha Deliverance is the founder and visionary of Pacific Domes Inc. of Ashland, which has been operational since 1980. Asha has been practicing yoga for over thirty years and has delivered over 150 babies as a professional midwife. She herself is the mother of seven children. Asha is an advocate of environmental sustainability and is actively promoting the work of Nassim Haramein, Ian Lungold and other leading-edge thinkers.

Flip Flotsam – Director: Journeyman Pictures - 20 min. Africa
Ever wondered what happens to your footwear after you’re finished with it? This award-winning and startlingly original documentary traces the fantastic journey of Africa’s most popular shoes: the flip-flop. Easily bought, quickly discarded, the flip-flop stands as a symbol of the summer holiday for millions of westerners. But in its African homeland, it undergoes a series of versatile transformations. Filmed over a two year period, this uplifting film takes an ingenious look at the lifecycle of the flip-flop.

DANCES OF ECSTASY

Friday Night/Saturday Morning
Arlo Forest Stage
3 :00am - 4:30am

Dances of EcstacyDANCES OF ECSTASY is a sensory journey into the mesmerising world of trance and ecstasy that binds dancers from Manhattan to Morocco. Australian filmmakers Michelle Mahrer and Nicole Ma travelled to traditional and modern day rituals to discover what is the altered state experience which people seek through dance. In these rituals, Whirling Dervishes from Turkey, Orisha priestesses from Nigeria and Brazil, and shaman healers from the Kalahari and Korea, pulse to the same beat as thousands of young people at an all night techno dance party in an Australian forest.

DANCES OF ECSTASY is a visual and aural feast for the senses, an innovative documentary blending exciting dance rituals, evocative imagery, interviews and a spellbinding global music soundtrack. The film is an inspiration to dance, and to reconnect with a sense of the sacred that many have lost touch with in modern life.
