The mission of the Eel River Watershed Improvement Group (ERWIG) is to improve stream habitat conditions in the Eel River basin to benefit native stocks of salmon and steelhead.

ERWIG is a non-governmental, non-judgmental, non-regulatory, landowner-based organization with the technical skills to assist in watershed improvement projects. Our primary goal, is to provide organizational and technical assistance to landowners and managers to develop local watershed action plans and implement specific projects which will benefit salmon.

The mission of the AmeriCorps Watershed Stewards Project is to conserve, restore and enhance anadromous watersheds for future generations by linking education with high quality scientific practices.

In 1995, watershed assessments were limited to half the drainage basins in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. Today, through landowner support for restoration, WSP members have been granted access to private land in three quarters of watersheds from the Oregon border to San Luis Obispo.

Our organization derives its name from a precept of the Great Law of Peace of the Haudenosaunee (Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy) which mandates that chiefs consider the impact of their decisions on the seventh generation yet to come.
